Wednesday Spotlight – Lisa Orchard

Today the spotlight shines on fellow Michigander *and* fellow Astraea Press author Lisa Orchard. Welcome, Lisa! She lives on the “other side of the Mitten” but we won’t hold that against her. ;-)   How long have you been writing?

Hi, thanks for having me today! I’ve been writing since the fifth grade. I started out reading mysteries and still love them today. Reading the “Bobbsey Twin” series and the “Nancy Drew” series inspired me so much that I knew I wanted to be a writer.  Of course, there were periods in between then and now when I didn’t write because I was working on another goal, like college, but I knew being a writer was my dream.

I read the Bobbsey Twin and Nancy Drew books too, plus Trixie Belden, and they all started me on my love for mystery! When did you first get published, Lisa?

On March 13, 2012. The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer is my debut novel, but it won’t be my last!

In a small Michigan town, fifteen-year-old Sarah Cole is stuck at her Aunt and Uncle’s. With her sister, Lacey, and a friend, Jackie, the three girls stumble upon the ruthless murder of a reclusive neighborhood woman. Fearing they will be blamed, they become the Super Spies to solve the mystery. Why would anyone murder the “Cat Lady?” They soon uncover an old crime linked to the present. The Super Spies realize it’s up to them to snare the Cat Lady killer, or die trying…

What a great premise, Lisa, and I bet YA readers would love it! So what’s next for your career?

I’m going to continue with the Super Spies series. In fact, I’ve just sent the sequel to my publisher, the awesome Astraea Press. I’ll keep everyone posted on the details. I also plan to branch out into other genres as well. I’ve started another story that’s more of a drama than a mystery. We’ll see where it goes.
