The first of the Lighthouse Mystery series takes place in a small village of west Michigan in the summer of 1908. Fire Point won the Utah RWA’s Heart of the West contest for Mystery/Suspense in 2011, and placed third in North Texas RWA’s Great Expectations contest in 2012.

The woman slid from his arms and dropped lifeless on the planked floor. She’d judged him wrong. How dare she threaten him with such bold demands? Stupid trollop.

He’d forgotten the immense thrill of satisfaction. How his hands tingled with raw power long afterward. Now the reddened flesh, imprinted with his finger marks between the white dress collar and delicate jaw, pleased him.

Wisps of dark hair caressed an earlobe. He stepped over the body in disdain and closed the lighthouse door. The village ought to thank him for getting rid of such vermin. Its young, inept marshal would never get the chance to learn what happened. In fact, no one in Saugatuck would ever suspect anything beyond a simple accident after tonight.

A simple village, simple carelessness…
